Anabolic Steroids were blamed for an incident related to hitting a man in the face17.05.2012Michael Barton, a man that was accused of hitting another man in the face during his uncontrolled aggression, appeared in the court in Hampshire (England). This person was given a suspended sentence of six months and a fine as compensation that he was enforced to pay to the man for hitting him and the damage of the vehicle.
Barton, a man of 21 years old, was driving his Volkswagen Golf. He wanted to overtake Paul Gard, when he had just a small opportunity for this goal. Barton had to pull in front of Gard in order to avoid the oncoming vehicle. Gard flashed his headlamps in order to indicate to Barton about his mistake. As a result, Barton became angry and aggressive.
Barton stopped his car and blocked Gard and his wife that were driving their Ford Fiesta. Barton reached Gard's car, broke the side-view mirror and hit Gard in the face. Gard's wife began to panic, called police and informed about the case.
Michael Williams, the defense attorney for Michael Barton, told the judge that Barton administered anabolic steroids in order to gain muscle mass. He confirmed that the steroids influenced on the temper of his client, leading to aggression. Thus, anabolic steroids and the side effect “roid rage" were demonized for the incident.
The attorney Williams said that Barton suffered from adverse reactions of steroids. He added that steroids affected behavior of users. So, Barton got increased testosterone levels. As a result, he got uncontrolled aggression.
The judge Patrick Hooton didn't receive the steroid excuse for the inappropriate behavior of Michael Barton. Moreover, this person was earlier charged with domestic violence and assaults.
The judge Hooton said that he was not sure that steroids affected Barton's behavior. It was horrible to hit another man just because Barton thought that he slighted him.
Steroid excuses didn't influence on the judge's decision. But the fact that Barton had a small child must have influenced on the judge's decision to give him a suspended sentence. |
